Good Book of Encouragement
I admit that this book took off slow for me. I think it was because I had just read one of Sheila’s other books called Holding On When You Want to Let Go. That book really spoke to me as I struggle with somethings in my life. However, this book really took off for me and I did something I never do, and that is highlight specific paraphrases and scriptures. Those parts of the book are ones I want to be able to find again. I really feel that God was speaking to me through his Holy Spirit. I vowed to take time each day in 2023 and spend time with God. Reading uplifting books that will help illuminate my walk with Jesus. If this is something that you want to do as well, I highly recommend Sheila Walsh’s books. She is a new author for me and I find them full of encouragement, which is something I need in 2023.

if you can somehow agree with God’s methods, this book is worth the read
Just finished reading this book earlier today. Love how Sheila points out that it isn’t a self help book, or else it would read completely different. She writes this book in encouragement to her readers, having gone through her own set of trauma and hurts.Putting my thought process in perspective, as a guy, sometimes I think we can learn a lot from the books our girlfriends/wives read, even single guys. I’ve been attracted to women’s studies, really since my childhood, looking up to my own mother who would take time just about every morning to read God’s Word and a few devotionals. I picked up an actual devotional of Sheila’s years ago and sort of remember some of what she said. Since I’m in my 30s, I remember, and still listen to her music when I take the chance. What an amazing voice. Anyway, the title of the book was enough to turn my head, and a sense of peace came over me from the Holy Spirit, a second time during the crisis of 2020, knowing that He’s got me in His hands and that everything is going to be okay. The bet way to describe the book is that it’s similar to how Laura Story writes her book, based off her hit song, Blessings: When God Doesn’t Fix It. Guys will relate to what Sheila writes about w/o feeling like you’ve walked into a women’s conversation that’s not meant for guys. God got my attention with the first chapter, and couldn’t really put this book down. I am finding out that getting older with a body that is highly sensitive with Asperger’s Syndrome is hard, yet the more I lean inward in trusting in God, with my physical life as well as all the other parts that need attention. God doesn’t expect perfection out of us, but in her words, He wants us to just show up.

You Are Not OK but God Can Help 2019
Sheila Walsh has bared her soul in this modern and realistic book. While written mostly for women, I gained a lot from it. If you are 50 years old or older, you have at least two years where you were not OK and the world was a hostile and unforgiving place. Maybe your boss hated you and got you fired or you had a very bad health event, such as a heart attack.Sheila tells us about her problems with depression and low self-image. Yes, most of us age 30 or older have been there. Trusting God, reading your Bible and giving money to the church is often not enough in some circumstance in some years. She tells us about her trip to the mental ward and need of medicines. Yes, Christians sometimes need alcohol and psych meds to get us through the night and the month. She desperately wanted to be OK all the time but it was impossible. One-sock-fits-all Christianity is for the out-of-touch theologians, preachers and so-called teachers. She offers practical helps, too many to list in this book review. A very few are:• “Don’t ignore the genesis of a problem, because it will only grow.” Page 100• You will have major problems that will not disappear within 72 hours—regardless of how good a person you are.• You are not alone. Millions of Christians have the same or similar problems like you.• It is OK not to be OK—if you keep trying, working and praying to the Creator.• Guess what? Your heredity and early childhood does affect your adult life, no matter what you hear from some “experts” and religious gurus.• If you have been a Christian for more than 20 years, you may be “burned out on religion.” You are not weird, many of us have been there.• “Christ thought you were worth dying for.” Page 16• “My prayers matter.” The fix may take more than one year.• She struggled with her marriage for two years. But the solution did arrive.• “It’s okay not to be okay, because Jesus has made us right with God.” P. 61• “If your own dad could eventually hate you, any one could.” With help from God and a few individuals, Sheila came to terms with several severe childhood problems. My main criticisms of this good book are: self-help is often helpful but we also need a lot of assistance from God; and sometimes we need to be OK, such as a nurse in a 12-hour shift at the hospital.

Simple, yet profound.
I have read several of Shelia’s books. I love her honesty, her transparency, and her humor. I consider her a kindred spirit in so many ways. The last couple months have been particularly tough for a variety of reasons. The biggest battles happen in my mind. I’ve also realized that shame is a huge hindrance for me. I feel less than in so many areas of my life. But rather than reaching out and talking about it openly, I often choose to withdraw, hide, and isolate. Lately, I’ve been considering getting another tattoo. A short phrase that I can look at and draw strength and encouragement from in especially dark and difficult times. “Its Okay Not To Be Okay resonates with me. I first heard it a few months ago. So that is what first drew me to this book. I read it in a single sitting. It was like a cool drink of water for my heart and soul. So simple, yet so profound. You can’t go wrong with any of Shelia’s writings, but in my opinion, this is one of her best. Read it, you won’t be sorry.

The name may let you know that as a man i have read this book and found Sheila Walsh teaching and books (yes I’ve read a few of them) incredibly strengthening and life changing. This book has for me given extra legs, strength or guidance (choose which you prefer or use all 3 as I have) to Her previous book In the Middle of the Mess, but please know this book in its own can be a life changer if you let GOD’S love take you through it as indeed I believe Shells did in writing it. None of us are perfect and for those who live in the public eye to open up and be as honest as Sheila is takes more courage than I know how to express but i am so grateful for her courage to do so. This is a bok i think many will recommend and not only do i want to recommend it but i want to let GOD take this message to the depth of all my pain and trust HIM with all i have.

Love this book, this author. Sheila Walsh is an excellent bible teacher and encourager. There are no trite or stock answers to the issues. Every word she writes is borne out of her own experience. This is a wonderful, honest book written by someone who will become a best friend.
