I appreciate the translator’s insightful comments and articles in this devotional edition
The Message Devotional Bible, large print is a 9.8 font, with numerous scriptural insights, articles and contemplative readings by the author/translator Eugene Peterson. Dr. Peterson has passed on to glory but make no mistake this is a translation by a Greek and Hebrew scholar who taught the languages at university and seminary level. The paper in this edition is so much better than the paper in The Message Bible, large print which I also own which has a 12.5 font on very, very thin paper. I find the font so big it is distracting and the print shows thru a lot from the other side of the paper. I am much happier with this Devotional edition and appreciate the inclusion of Dr. Peterson’s comments/articles and the opacity of the paper.

My favorite translation. Easy to read for beginners who are starting a journey through the Bible.
I could sit and read this translation of the Bible all day. If you are on the fence about buying it, do it! You won’t be sorry.

Excellent Bible (recommend large print)
Theres’s a sustantial difference between large print and regular. Large print is much better. The Message version is a super addition to your scripture reading arsenal. The commentary and devotions are great. I love it!

I recommend as supplemental reading
I really enjoy this paraphrase bible. I find the Book introductions and the devotions and question that are within each chapter, to be thought provoking and heart revealing.

Helpful notations provide context, but thin pages and small font detract from readability
After having read the Bible several times (a different version each time), I was in a Bible rut. Every day I had been setting aside time for prayer, reflection, reading from a devotional, and Bible reading. But I was tired of reading the same old stories. So a friend who’s a Presbyterian pastor recommended The Message. He said it would make the stories seem more “alive.” He was right. I enjoy the more casual writing style, and this devotional version has features that add context. For example, each book in this Bible has an introduction that adds context, such as the historical or literary context of that book. Questions for reflection are scattered throughout the text, along with devotional sidebars. What I don’t like about this Bible is (1) The pages are so thin, the type on each page is visible on the opposite side of the page. (2) The type is awfully small — too small for my 70-year-old eyes. Consequently, I bought The Message Super Giant Print version, which I now use for my daily reading. I use The Message Devotional Bible (hardcover) to supplement the giant print version. I wish the publisher would combine the best attributes of both versions into one Bible — easily readable text with an introduction to each book, along with other scholarly notes and devotional sidebars.

Love this Bible.
There are many translations available of the Bible. I tend to use several different translations during my Bible studies, but my favorite is The Message by Eugene Peterson. Hang on to your hat and buckle your seat belt – this is a straight forward, no holds barred, modern English language translation of the most classic book ever written. King James would not recognize it had anything to do with his translation, but, with all due respect to King James, I find some of his language difficult to follow and comprehend too. Not only do you get the most complete, modern English translation of the Bible, but you also have the added benefit of Eugene Peterson’s guidance/questions/insights/years of pastoral knowledge and love of the The Message [a.k.a. God’s Word]. Want the Bible to be more relevant in your day-to-day experience? Think that the Bible was an ancient book for an ancient people in an ancient time? Think again my friend the Bible is more relevant and has more to say to all of us now more than ever and Eugene Peterson has taken on the painstaking task of bringing it to our attention in very plain and revealing texts while keeping the holiness of the prose and poetry.

Bought as it was a favourite translation of my late minister. The image on the jacket is beautiful. The lettering has a metallic finish and adds pizzazz.Under the jacket, the cover is plain navy with writing just on the spine.Verse numbering is a bit hard-to-read, as the numbers are greyed out. Chapter numbering is similarly grey, but larger and easier to spot.Christ’s words are in black, which I prefer for my bibles.Last image is a comparison between this bible and the deluxe gift bible by The Navigators (also the Message translation).

Though I’ve loved the Lord as long as I can remember, I’d never loved reading His Word. It was difficult for me to see reading my Bible as more than anything than doing it because that was what you were supposed to do. And for the longest time I felt so bad for not enjoying the Bible in NIV and NLT. Anyway, now at 23 years of age, I told myself it’s ok because at the end of the day I think God cares more about how we’re engaging with His Word, how it moves us and challenges us, inspires us, disciplines us, rather than the formatting of the wording.I think there’s something beautiful about *all* translations, and if this gets you to read the Bible, THAT’S OK. It’s all the same content, just different styles of delivery. Just like a sermon by two people can be the exact same content, you are more than guaranteed to have 2 different deliveries, 2 different reactions.

Good to read with large print

I like this version, it clarifies some of the more difficult to understand texts.
