Putting Jesus Back in His Place: Over Everything Else.
Lisa Whittle is a prophetic voice in our generation, and I don’t pen those words lightly. As one can discern through listening to her podcast (also titled Jesus Over Everything) or by following her on Instagram, Lisa’s style is characterized by raw honesty, dry wit, and hard-hitting conviction. While her style may seem too straightforward for some, those who are looking for solid, Scriptural truths that haven’t been watered down will be well pleased with Lisa’s newest book, Jesus Over Everything.In Jesus Over Everything Lisa attempts to “uncomplicate the daily struggle to put Jesus first.” Each chapter focuses on a “deadly over” we may become easily ensnared by in daily life, such as over indulging or over explaining. The 10 chapters focus on 9 simple, daily choices we can make that will help us put Jesus back in his rightful place in our lives- that is to say, over everything else. Some of my favorite chapters included Chapter 5: Service Over Spotlight and Chapter 9: Commitment Over Mood. But chapter 4, “Holiness Over Freedom,” was one of the most convicting pieces of nonfiction I have ever read. I have heard Lisa say that she almost left the chapter out and that it was a last-minute addition to the book; truly, this chapter was nothing short of anointed and I’m so thankful it was included in the final copy.Lisa’s signature style weaves pragmatic storytelling told by beautiful prose alongside short, hard hitting zingers; you’ll find yourself highlighting the pithy quotes on nearly every page. I took my time with this book and read it over the course of a couple of months in order to really soak in the content and reflect on each chapter. I highly recommend doing the same and while I haven’t completed the corresponding Bible study, I have no doubt that it is excellent.Lisa’s book is packed with wisdom and perhaps what I appreciate most is the fact that it is clear that to Lisa, Jesus Over Everything isn’t just one of her signature one-liners; it’s a lifestyle, and it’s her life’s mission. This book inspired me to make putting Jesus Over Everything my life’s mission, too. Thank you, Lisa for this wonderful book! 5 shining stars.

Incredible book that will change your focus!
We selected this book to read in our women’s small group. Lisa Whittle has tapped into something that spoke to my soul…how to change my personal focus to a Jesus-focused life. Through her engaging, at times humorous and relatable narrative she walks through areas of her own life and points to ways our lives can be distracted, where our focus can become worldly, and why peace can become so elusive to our souls. Whittle gives incredible testimony throughout this book and actionable and thought provoking discussion of ways to remove distractions and things from our life that will never provide happiness, and open that space for Jesus. A Jesus over Everything life is not a Sunday-church life…it is a changed perspective and a way that takes every aspect of your life and helps you choose everything you do to glorify our King. This book provided hours of thought-provoking discussion for our small group and has left us all changed and seeking Jesus Over Everything in our own lives! Great book, highly recommend for anyone wanting to see ways they can change their perspective in this world and turn their eyes and hearts into action to glorify Jesus!

Honest, vulnerable, relatable, TRUTH.
I saw people posting about this book on social media…so I ordered it, and made it part of my “pandemic reading” stack. I’ve read 20 books since March. Some were funny, some serious, some wore.me.down. I had my guard up, because I thought it might be another “let me tell all you people what you’re doing wrong” book, but from the first pages of JOE, I was IN. I found this book to be honest and relatable. Lisa teaches as someone who has “been there,” as opposed to someone on a pedestal, looking down on all of us who are struggling. There have been times in my life, where I felt like I needed to explain my convictions to someone (spoiler: you don’t have to explain them to anyone). In chapter 4 of JOE, these words settled my heart: [In a healthy relationship with Jesus,] “liberties live at peace with convictions.” I loved this book, and recently ordered the study guide…so I can go through it again.
