· understand how self-focus sabotages seven areas of our lives
· learn four practical steps for focusing on God and others
· experience freedom from the burden of self-focus
Our me-centered culture affects every area of our lives–our relationships, calling, self-image, even our faith–and it negatively impacts each one. The self-focused life robs our joy, shrinks our souls, and is the reason we get stuck in insecurity.
In Free of Me, Sharon Hodde Miller invites us into a bigger, Jesus-centered vision–one that restores our freedom and inspires us to live for more. If you’ve been yearning for more than a self-help faith, then this paradigm-shifting message of true fulfillment is for you.

A practical and relatable look at the problem of self focus and the solution found in Christ
In today’s culture of self-preoccupation and self-help, Free of Me delivers a message of freedom. Psalm 121: 1-2 tells us that our help comes from the Lord and in this book, Sharon gracefully exposes the dangers and holes in a self-help gospel. Instead, she continuously points us to look to Christ when it comes to our insecurities, our relationships, and our purpose. With a strong theological understanding and a relatable voice, Sharon opens up honestly about her own struggles with self-preoccupation, allowing her experiences to lovingly convict and reveal places where the reader may also be making life about them. With chapters on making God about you, your family about you, your possessions about you, and your church and calling about you, Sharon shows us how we can often fail to live the free life we have gained in Christ when we look inward instead of raising our gaze to Him.Sharon doesn’t just leave us with knowledge of our problem; she delves into action steps we can take to start claiming the freedom we can have from making life about us and instead focusing on praising God, serving others, and dying to self without neglecting self. This book is a must-read for anyone who feels like there is something missing from some of the teachings for women today. It’s message is so practical that I find myself thinking about it as I go about my day and as I reflect on my experiences and interactions with others. Perfect for a book study with reflection questions and scriptures, I plan to share this book with others in my church.

Good ladies Bible study book
Although our group did a complementary Bible study alongside this book, the material was great for launching deeper into the Word, and the discussion questions were helpful to foster relationships and connection in our group.

Hooked!
I love how Miller writes and explains things. Her use of personal stories resonated at times with me. I’m what Steve Harvey calls, “a Christian in training.” Ive been leaning towards these books for some reason, like someone is nudging me to it and Miller is on point with how she wrote for this reader.

This book is relatable to us all!
We all need to learn how to let ourselves go to get closer to our purpose. Not just letting go of ourselves in the sense of putting other people first, but letting go of our selfish desires, insecurities, and self focus, to focus on our true calling and love for God and others. So that we can truly be who he called us to be. Our identity gets lost when we hold on to ourselves and focus only on ourselves.

READ THIS BOOK!
Hands down One of the best books I have read in a while. I have relied on many of the well-known Christian authors to guide me in my journey of spiritual wholeness but this book rises above all of them for me. In this time of my life the message was so very clear. A well written book, spiritually deep, Spiritually empowering.

Loved this book!
Just finished this book and I’m planning to read it again immediately. This book is an eye opener to our own little world of self centeredness. It is about freedom from ourselves so that we are free to live for God completely. It is not a condemning book in anyway. I would recommend this book to any and everyone. I’m actually getting my husband toread it. It is not just for women. Thank you to the author for writing this book. I feel like I know her personally now. Thank you for sharing this truth with us and your own struggles. Keep writing and I will keep reading- and growing in the Lord.

This book redefined many things for me and really shows how the trap of self holds us back from the bigger picture of the Kingdom. At the end of the day, letting go of self helps us truly become free, fulfilled and focused on Jesus and the Kingdom. This is also where we become most authentic and able to look beyond ourselves to fulfill the purposes of God.It challenges the subject of self-esteem radically and rather shows how our esteem should come from God and our insufficiencies are not to be treated as malfunctions but as points of compassion and connection with others. I will definitely re-read this over and again. I recommend it to everyone!!

This book was everything I was hoping for and more. It is steeped in Scripture and has a clear point –my life is not meant to be lived for my comfort, glory, or satisfaction. It is so much bigger than that. Self-forgetfulness is the only answer to the suffering caused by self-absorption. It is any easy book to follow and builds logically and carefully. I read it in one day. It also has great questions for reflection at the end of each chapter.
