Great reading on the Word of God
One of my favorite authors with 8 books combined in one large book. I could read the Holy Spirit one several times. He is so Eloquent with his words and speaks the truth. I highly recommend this author.

This book is a real marathon to finish! This is not a book to be devoured in one go, or your mind will explode. This is NOT designed for speed reading. The way how I read it or used it was to have it as my quiet time companion for over a year. This is a volume with six books in it. The topics are therefore quite diverse although it centres on prayer and spiritual warfare as in the title. I bought this book originally to find out more about prayer but it turns out that I get a lot more thrown in in the bargain. Has it worked to empower my prayer life? Yes, not just through more knowledge but also through arousing the need to pray as different aspects of life were brought into the highlight! In other words, knowledge was quickly put into practice!!Why is it such a heavy duty book? It is for two reasons. First, each sermon is jam packed with theology that takes time to sink in and works your mind really hard if you are engaged. Second, true to Spurgeon, everything he wrote conveys an intensity and urgency that prompts a response from or an examination of the heart. That is why mentally and emotionally it is an exhausting exercise. His words still speak today to each individual. This is how good Spurgeon is. You can’t read this as an intellectual exercise detached from your heart. It is piercing if you approach the book truthfully and honestly. It is a journey; it is an experience. Often I found myself going back to God in prayer after reading a chapter of the book. It has convicted me on many things, speaks of truths that simply resonate, and be the deciding factor in changing the direction of my thinking on some of the issues that I am dealing with. The interaction of this book with my real life here and now is phenomenal. I do not know how a book can have such power even after more than a century except through God’s blessing and the work of the Holy Spirit. In this sense, Spurgeon’s ministry is still alive today through his numerous publications, of which this is one (or six!).There were times when I was reading the book, a pin dropped and I suddenly understood something. Other times, it was like a door had been opened and I could gaze upon some heavenly glory through Spurgeon’s beautiful, earnest, and no-nonsense words. Yet another time, I read some lines which bore so much relevance to today’s world which was simply incredible and awe-inspiring. I wouldn’t give any quotes here as there are simply too many to share, and if I only select one or two, it will be a huge misrepresentation of the book. This book is not for the faint-hearted. But if you are interested in finding out more about the Bible and Christian life, wanting to examine your own heart, in engaging with God, and be prepared to put in the time, then you will not be disappointed.
