Is it possible that good things can come out of our broken dreams?

Worship leader and recording artist Laura Story’s life took an unexpected turn when her husband, Martin, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Their lives would never be the same.

Yes, with God all things are possible. But the devastating news was that no cure existed to restore Martin’s short-term memory, eyesight, and other complications. The fairy-tale life Laura had dreamed of was no longer possible. And yet in struggling with God about how to live with broken dreams, Laura has found joy and a deeper intimacy with Jesus.

In When God Doesn’t Fix It, Laura helps you understand that:

We aren’t the only ones whose lives have taken unexpected turnsEven heroes of our faith experienced brokennessDespite our flaws and stories, God can use us in extraordinary ways

God may not fix everything. In fact, although your situation might not ever change or get better, with Jesus you can. Not because of your faith, but because of the faithfulness of God.

I have it to encourage, and was encouraged myself!
I stumbled across this book…and can only believe that THE Stumbling Stone led me to it. I found it when a dear friend was struggling with a husband with a brain tumor. I offered her the book because as much add I’d like to encourage, I’ve never had a husband with a brain tumor. I figured this book could speak in ways I couldn’t… and so I offered it as a gift. My friend quickly wore back saying, ” Thank you! I’m loving the book. Her point of view is exactly how I feel….it’s interesting to hear someone explain what I can’t put into words to others when they ask how I’m doing.”Three months later, as her husband condition worsened, I wrote this friend again, asking if she thought the book would help me understand how she’s feeling. She said she thought it would be great for that… so I bought the book for myself…The book is well written, conversational, but not cliche. It shares an honest story, not shined up for public consumption or approval. Laura shares honestly, humbly, not in a way that draws pity, but understanding. I found myself beginning to consider my own life and re-frame my past based on the Truth that God loves me and has a good plan for my life. Sometimes times are tough, but it is those very things that God can use to bless me, to reveal to me (and the world) His glory. This book is helping me to re-formulate my thinking, my reactions. I am learning to accept difficulties and ask, “how can this bring Him glory?” rather than, “how can I escape this situation?”The book is faithfully rooted in Scripture, revealing how God is continuing his story of redemption in Laura and Martin’s lives. For the first time ever, I considered how even Paul had to learn how to accept his difficulties…I have two more people in mind to whom I want to give this book. Sharing this book with them is like adding to the Holy Spirit’s groaning on their behalf. Where I long to encourage and speak into their lives, but have no words, I ask the Father to use this word, and His word to reveal himself

Let this book change your narrative it will give you strength.
This book a has changed my narrative. I lost my son to a disease that my living son is fighting. God is not fixing it, doctors are making it worse, but my family is unbelievably strong and close because of our situation. Coming from an unloving sac religious childhood, I have turned to God for help, but in the wrong way. I think I can tell my story now, which pours of me most days in a way that gives God the glory. Thank you Laura for the courage to write this.

Quite literally the best self help book
I have recommended and quoted this book to over a dozen people in the month since I read it. Im not a ” Bible pusher” I dont talk religion with random people. This book changed my life quite literally. It changed the way I pray, the way I deal with uncomfortable situations and people. It helps me navigate my husband’s illness and helps me be a better educator. Buy the book. Read it once and see for yourself. You will give it as gifts!

“When God Doesn’t Fix It” — A transparent, honest account of struggling when prayers aren’t answered the way one wants
I have been a fan of Laura Story’s music for a few years and knew a bit of the story of her husband’s tumor and resulting medical issues. That story is the basis for Ms. Story’s book; it’s the context for the growth of her faith in God even when God doesn’t fix things the way we want them fixed. Ms. Story is very transparent about the struggles she and her husband experienced following his surgery and resulting complications — struggles in their relationship, struggles with balancing competing needs to care for her husband and to work to provide an income, struggles with releasing control so that her husband could actually make progress, and struggles to continue to have faith in God. At the end of each chapter, she becomes a “myth-buster” as she presents a common myth about faith and life and the truth that she has learned.”When God Doesn’t Fix It” is well-written and inspiring. My primary critique is that Ms. Story seemed to struggle to bring the book to an end — the end dragged a bit. If you’re struggling with unanswered prayers or unfulfilled expectations, this book should help you see your situation in a different light.

An easy to read book by the author sharing her own life experiences. Puts into correct perspective our humanistic views of trials and why God allows these. Highly recommended to read thoughtfully as it will be rewarding to the one who does.

I have concluded that much of what is supposedly promised when we become a Christian is simply not true. I’m not alone. So many feel let down by God, or feel rejected as if they are doing something wrong when the Christian ‘formula’ does’nt work. Working through our problems and being real about them is what Laura Story has learned. This book will help many to come to terms with a loving God who allows pain and problems into our lives because – He sees a bigger picture than we do and wants the very very very best for us.

Wow! What an amazing book and inspirational author written from the heart. Just what I needed to read during this season of my life. God spoke to me so much though these words. I already have three friends I’ve promised to loan it to. Would have bought them copies but the book is currently now out of stock. I bought mine just in time. Thank you for your openness and vulnerability Laura .

I’m deeply touched by this book and amazed how the author has described the emotional turmoil so simply, honestly but powerfully inspite of her brokenness, in the midst of deep doubts, shattered dreams & hopes and helplessness. She recognises the presence & power of God during her struggles and her total dependence on Him. From Laura’s deep Biblical insights I’m learning to find intimacy with Jesus and not to believe the misguided lies and to recognise the presence of sin in my nature so that I may live a life full of joy & love inspite of trials & struggles. This book is really a Blessing from God. God bless the author Laura Story and the publication team.
